Group of Cody kites at Alexandra Palace Exhibition. Winch, Navy compound, war kites, early carrier kites, hexagonal black barn-door kite. Six-wing kite above. Series of increasingly large extended wing kites, some with top-knots. Cody standing. Sept. 1903. Barn Door kite used to lift meteorgraph (see 279/280) in Meteorological Experiments at Newcastle upon Tyne Aug. 1902 see Newcastle Chronicle August/September 1902, also "The Flying Cathedral" by Gould Lee, page 106 illust. Barn Door weight 5.5 lb; 'the lightest kite made by Cody up to that time'. Comment on this kite and the "Uncle Sam" Barn Door kite in "Flying Kites" by Wagenvoord page 47. Cody in England when the US kite was flown on Aug 31 1892. Displayed in Paris and later reported in La Nature. Cody in France Dec. 1892 (and later), might have seen the French report. The fact that it was an American who claimed the biggest kite in the world may have impressed Cody as his 1901 big box kites were approx. the same height.
