Commercial Nantong Whistle kite from Nantong, China. Not a good flyer, but used mostly as wall decoration. Made painting nylon/synthetic material stretched over a bamboo frame. Usually the whistles are gourds, but these are cut bamboo, lacquered. Five-point bridle.
Nantong is famous for the use of gourds on the surface of their handpainted kites. The gourds are cut with holes to create whistling sounds as the kite flies.
