Language: English Description: James Supworth had an abiding love of kites that began when he was eight. By the time he was grown, he had progressed from simple kites to box kite, tetrahedrals, Japanese war kite, windmills with hummers, Seven Sisters, and even kites with bells. He knew about aerodynamics, tension of strings, strength of fabrics and coverings, and the capricious qualities of breezes and wind.

It was time, he decided one day, to try riding a kite. So he made the great kite Merriweather, a group of five kites really. And a friend made all the plans for launching. He would go up, carefully tethered with a wire, drop a message, and come back down.

James Supworth knew a great deal about kites, but sometimes even the knowing make mistakes. And that's what sent him and the kite Merriweather on their great adventure.
