Language: English Description: It is unusual for an American kite artist to use traditional
Japanese materials in her kites. Even more unusual is her ability
to produce something unique, original and personal. So it is with
the kites of Linda Johnston Murosako of Seattle. Using bamboo
and a variety of handmade papers, Linda appliques and layers
her paper shapes into unique pictures not often associated with
kites. Images from nature that might be too small or too ordinary
are often used to startling effect; insect wings, beetle shells,
vegetable or fruit sections are all motifs that she has transformed
with her paper and bamboo sculpture. Linda's kites are unique in
the kite world, but are a modern reflection of the traditional art of
the Japanese kite.
