Sailors with two different very large Extended Wing War Kites at HMS Excellent. Reference is made in the trials report to No.2 (17 ft) kites which could refer to one of these and which was noted to be wider than the ship from which it was to be flown. Note triple leading edge bridles and no sign of fairlead. Same as 181, 231, 420. Group including 036, 037, 081, 087, 095, 180, 181, 183, 199, 202, 208, 212, 213, 231, 234, 242, 244, 386, 408, 420, 430, 431, 452, 453, 454, 456, 459, 464, 465, 491, 518, 669, 694, 736. This group covers kite activities at HMS Excellent. HMS Excellent is the RN shore base at Whale Island, Portsmouth.
