Rear view of man in wicker kite seat under large Black Carrier kite with kingposts. Man at about 40 ft from ground. Black Kite with white edge banding. Summer as men are in shirtsleeves and flying field has long grass. Same as 421, 717. Group including 039, 064, 418, 419, 421, 425, 436, 437, 515, 523, 582, 583, 606, 608, 610, 611, 612, 613, 614, 615, 616, 617, 618, 620, 629, 686, 687, 701, 705, 711, 717, 720, 722, 723, 738, 745, 746, 748, 785, 787, 788, 790, 792, 793. brings together most occasions when the British Army operated these black kites. Distinguishing marks identifying individual kites are the number and length of the white load tapes used to attach the bridle lines. This image appeared in The Sphere on 2nd August 1904 mentioning that experiments had been carried out at Aldershot.
