Traditional Tosa kite made by Tokuko Sato (Japan). Made with handpainted washi, spruce spars, both sides of the bottom of the kite have thick twisted cotton tails. The hummer is made of Japanese newsprint (printed with news) and lacquered stiff by the application of glue. She has signed the kite on the back (there is also Japanese kanji) and her chop mark is on the lower left front of the kite. Three-point bridle.

Mrs. Sato is one of the few women recognized as a professional status kitemaker in Japan. A world ambassador of kitemaking, she has taught her province's style of Tosa kitemaking to many. She handpaints the traditional images of Japanese lore on each sail.
